2012 Meeting Schedule

The North Carolina State Board of Education established a Task Force on Global Education to continue the Board's efforts to bridge the divide in knowledge, skill, and understanding necessary to ensure that students graduating from North Carolina's public schools are prepared for the challenges of career and post-secondary education in the 21st century.
State Board of Education Chairman, Bill Harrison, appointed State Board Vice Chairman Wayne McDevitt to lead the Task Force. State Board members Melissa Bartlett, Kevin Howell, John Tate, and Patricia Willoughby serve as members of the Task Force.
Through a series of "discovery meetings," the Task Force is examining trends in global and international education in K-12 public schools and institutions of higher education. Task Force members are seeking recommendations from leaders in business and industry, universities, military, national, state, and international organizations, and public schools.
The Task Force on Global Education is defining what one presenter called, "a new way of thinking about education.... What we in the U.S. call 'global education,' the rest of the world calls 'education.' Global education must play an important role if the purpose of education is to help students understand the world in which they live and empower them to deal with the situations in which they will find themselves." The Task Force will present its findings and recommendations to the State Board of Education in the summer of 2012.
